Well the Ghan journey wasn’t quite as comfortable this time, the train was full so I didn’t have 2 seats to myself and there was a noisy family opposite. But I got here in one piece, and my hostel seems OK – though not as nice as Alice’s Secret of course.

Trip with “wayoutback”:
Walked around Uluru – it looks like a large rock from all angles.
Walked through Kata Tjuta – much more exciting close-up than Uluru
Walked around King’s Canyon – amazing views
Slept outdoors on “swags” round a fire in the outback
Travelled for miles and miles over dirt roads

Just a quick one to let you know I’m in Alice springs. The trip on the Ghan was great, time flew by and I even got some sleep. The stop at Katerine was great and I went Kayaking on the Katherine river.

It’s been good lazing around in Darwin, and I needed the break from all the traveling and planning.
But it’s time to move again. I’m booked on The Ghan on Saturday to Alice Springs. From there, I will visit some of central Australia’s attractions, such as Uluru. The train takes over 24 hours, so another tiring [...]

I’m sort of getting in to the Darwin way of doing things now, it’s very different to Bangkok and Singapore… I moved hostel from the one I initially booked to a much quieter one away from the main boozy strip, that is certainly good for my sanity.
